Today is the 29th of October, and you know what that means..? Tomorrow is Halloween!! I am quite excited! I really like halloween. Who doesn't like to dress up and look really scary to scare each other and go out and have fun? I know I do. So the last weeks have been spent trying to figure out something cool and scary I can be. And I am still not sure...
I think I know what makeup to do, but I just don't know what to wear or what to call it...
I do know one thing though, I don't want to be a sexified character, like a slutty nurse or a sexy angel/demon or the ever so sexy cop, which seem to be the popular choices...
Halloween should be about dressing scary, not sexy and slutty trying to get lucky. You can have a normal costume party any time of the year where you can dress sexy and cute, but this is the one night of the year you should be a little bit scary. I just had this discussion with a friend earlier today, and she found a really interesting article by Huffington Post where they write about how sexy tween costumes look. Read the article here.
A tween is a person who is between the age of 10 to 12, so they are still kids. The tween costumes they talk about in the article was absolutely not for kids... They are slutty versions for 10-12 year olds. Why would a 12 year old child need to wear skirts and dresses that doesn't even cover their butt?! I really don't see the logic. They should still be able to be kids, and run around having fun, not looking like people my age trying to get laid. It is just wrong. I really hope my future kids don't want to wear something like that, because that's not gonna happen. Parents out there, do you really want your little girl to look like this? It is important to teach them what message they are sending out to people, but 10-12 year olds are not able to fully understand that yet, since they are after all still just kids.
These are some of the photos that show up when you search "tween halloween costumes" on Google. Luckily most of the pictures had tights and such, but still. Is this what 10-12 year olds should want to wear? It is scary how early they are going to get judged by their body, because that is what these costumes do. They are going to feel like they have to look sexy far too early, and it is not logical that kids should look sexy. The age limit to have sex in Norway is 16 years old, far from their age, so why on earth should they look like sex objects?
Okay, enough of my rambling now. Just felt like getting this out. It have really been bugging me all day.
So now I need to get back to my philosophy assignment... Almost written a whole page :D
Bye Bye
